Allow Me to Introduce Myself… or My Blog

Dear Reader,

I thank you for stopping by to the grand opening of Mere Breath, a blog dedicated to the glory of God. My name is Cameron and I am excited to start this new adventure with all of you. There are probably a couple of questions running through your head as you read.

1. What is this blog about?
2. Why was this blog started?

The answer to the first question is this: The gospel, good theology, and random thoughts. If you put those three things together, this blog is a theological blog centered on sharing the gospel which presents my random thoughts on both theology and the gospel (also current events). What is theology? Well, theology is “the study of God.” What is the gospel? Well, it is the good news that Jesus, through His sacrificial and atoning death, provided redemption from our sin. Also, He defeated death’s sting due to being arisen from the grave. He has gifted us with the Holy Spirit in order to guide us through sanctification, the process of becoming more holy. This blog will offer good theological thought in order to deepen our understanding of the gospel. I pray that for Christians who read this blog, it will increase your knowledge of the gospel and further fuel your passion for it. I pray that those who read this blog who are not yet saved see the beauty behind the gospel and the peace and joy it delivers. Ultimately, this blog is dedicated to the glory of God. As Paul states in I Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (ESV).

Now, why did I start this blog? Currently, I am taking a class at Southeastern entitled “Doctrine of Vocation.” It is a class about how the Christian faith can integrate within the workplace. For the class, I have to read Timothy Keller’s Every Good Endeavor. Tim Keller offers a couple of quotes that got me thinking. He writes, “Work is one of the ways we make ourselves useful to others, rather than just living a life for ourselves” (Keller, Every Good Endeavor, p.24-25). He also writes, “God gives us talents and gifts so we can do for one another what he wants to do for us and through us” (Keller, p.13). I love writing. I thank God for giving me the talent to write. And I wanted to use a talent of mine to glorify God while benefiting others. So, I am taking Keller’s thoughts seriously by starting this blog where hopefully (and humbly) I can show you all my personal thoughts on theology and things going on within the world. I pray it will be a benefit and a blessing to you as you read what I have to say.

Charles Spurgeon, a nineteenth century Baptist preacher who ministered in London, said the following in 1861 at the opening of his church, the Metropolitan Tabernacle: “I would propose that the subject of the ministry of this house, as long as this platform shall stand, and as long as this house shall be frequented by worshippers, shall be the person of Jesus Christ” (Spurgeon & Harrald, C. H. Spurgeon’s Autobiography, 3:1). I hold the same proposition and prayer for Mere Breath Blog. As long as this blog is frequented and read by readers, the subject of its matter shall be the person of Jesus Christ. 

Mere Breath’s theme verse is Psalm 144:3-4 which reads, “O LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him? Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow” (NASB1995).

Now, let us use our breath for the glory of the Lord’s holy name.
